Contract The Phantom of Eldberg Walkthrough: Skellige Isles Witcher Contracts

Start Location: This quest can be acquired via a notice posted on the Arinbjorn Notice board in western, central Ard Skellig.

Once you have picked up the quest from the notice board, you’ll notice an objective marker has appeared on the map on the small group of islands just to the north of Arinbjorn and to the south of Kaer Trolde Harbour. You can access them easily via any nearby boat, or alternatively taking the dirt path leading to the northwest from the town of Sund and swimming across to the islands at the closest possible point.

When you reach the island chain make your way north to the island with the lighthouse indicated by the objective marker, killing any wandering Pirates who may come across your path.

Upon arriving at the northern island with the lighthouse you’ll notice a creepy fog set in. Follow the dirt path here towards the objective marker. As you proceed, you’ll need to fight a pair of Wraiths that will appear and attack.

The objective marker will become a search area when you get closer. Stick on Witcher Sense and inspect the dead body in the middle of the road. Approach the nearby building and have Geralt knock on the door for a scene.

Note: At this point you’ll earn 25XP.

Following the conversation with Mikkjal exit the building and continue to follow the path until you reach the lighthouse. There will be another pair of Wraiths that appear and will attack as you go, so be prepared (and don’t say I didn’t warn you!).

The lighthouse itself represents one large search area which we can explore and investigate. Pop on Geralt’s Witcher Senses and you and examine the following:

  • Symbols scrawled on the wall of the lighthouse by the first set of stairs.

After inspecting the Symbols, Geralt will figure out what he is up against.

Note: At this point you’ll earn 25XP.

Backtrack to the previous building. Rest, meditate and prepare yourself for a boss fight before chatting with Mikkjal once again to trigger the fight.

Boss: Penitent (Wraith)

The Penitent is quite similar to the Wraiths you have fought in the game so far, she just has significantly more health and can do a lot more damage with her attacks. The Penitent will perform the same general melee swipes and teleport attacks as a regular Wriath so you’ll want to do your best to keep an eye out for attacks coming from odd locations.

At several points during the fight the Penitent will split into a group of four level 13-14 Wraiths. We’ll be required to defeat the group of Wraiths before the boss will return. The penitent herself can be slowed by YRDEN and can be tanked quite effectively with QUEN. Using Moon Dust Bombs can cause significant damage.

For the first little bit of the fight, the boss is extremely hardy and will do increased damage and take next to none from your melee attacks. As such, do your best to keep your distance and avoid attacks like the plague! After a minute or so, Mikkjal will light the fire in the lighthouse and at this point the boss will weaken significantly, allowing you to take her out as you would a normal Wraith.

Once the Penitent is dead, loot the body for the Wraith Trophy and any other goodies it was carrying. A scene will play.

After one final chat with Mikikjal, return to Arinbjorn and speak with Jorund in the inn to end the side-quest.

Note: for completing the side-quest, you’ll earn 260XP and 184 Crowns.

If you complete this side-quest before completing ‘King’s Gambit’ as you attempt to leave the pair of Skelligers who weren’t too pleased with your arrival will show up again and trigger a new side-quest ‘Stranger in a Strange Land’.
